ONE WEEK TRIAL MEMBERSHIP
Now is the perfect time to get back to a healthy lifestyle. HEELS/Employee Fitness would like to extend an invitation to participate in a FREE One (1) Week Trial Membership.
Prior to taking advantage of the trial membership, please email your name, PID#, email address, CB#, and the dates you would like to use the pass to pdunlop@email.unc.edu.

Kids ROCK! Recreational Opportunities for Carolina Kids

  • Saturday, April 12: Kids ROCK Bike Rodeo
    10am-12pm / Location: Skipper Bowles Parking Lot (next to the Smith Center)
    Bring your bike and helmet and learn about bike safety from the Cycle Corps of the Department of Public Safety. In addition to safety information, there will be obstacle courses for kids and parents, a repair station, and lots of special door prizes. Please RSVP to Tori, tleighc@email.unc.edu.

Celebrate the season with a festive run/walk with fellow UNC employees. Sign up individually or with your department. The route includes either a 3-mile run or 1.5 mile walk--your choice! Refreshments, awards, and give-aways will follow the race. Open to UNC Faculty & Staff Only.

WALK FOR WELLNESS

Taking STEPS to a healthier lifestyle!

Fall is an ideal time to begin a fitness walking program!!  Regular fitness walking strengthens and tones muscles, improves cardiovascular health, and increases stamina, metabolism and energy!

Become fit one step at a time through a new Campus Recreation program, Walk for Wellness. Walks will be held throughout the week and will start from various locations on campus.

Walk for Wellness is a FREE program available to UNC employees. All walking paces and levels are welcome. For more information about this program and other employee recreation opportunities, please contact Lauren Mangili.

Rams Head Recreation Center

This state-of-the-art facility features:
• 3 basketball courts (one with inset soccer goals and dasherboards for roller & floor hockey)
• Indoor track
• Indoor climbing wall
• Locker rooms
• Multipurpose room
• Cardiovascular and weight training equipment

Student Recreation Center (SRC)

Located at the corner of South Road and Stadium Drive, the SRC provides UNC students and employees with
cardiovascular and weight training equipment and group fitness classes.

FITNESS SERVICES

Fitness Orientations
A Fitness Orientation is a FREE service that provides patrons with a brief introduction to the cardiovascular and weight training equipment available at the Rams Head or Student Recreation Center.

Fitness Checkups
Wondering how fit you really are? Then this may be the program for you. Fitness Checkups are designed to help you determine your strength, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, blood pressure, and body composition. The results of this checkup can be used to help you develop suitable exercise goals and plans.

Fitness Consultations
Fitness Consultations are designed for patrons who need help developing a fitness plan. Our Fitness Consultants will help you select the most effective exercises to achieve your fitness goals.

Personal Training
Our Personal Trainers will develop an individualized exercise regimen, based on your fitness assessment and goals, which will be not only be challenging, but exciting. You will learn how to exercise effectively and safely during your sessions.

ADDITIONAL REC
Free play opportunities offer a great way to stay in shape, relieve job-related stress and socialize with new and old friends.

• Lap Swimming is available in the Bowman Gray Indoor Pool. (This is the only facility available to dependents.)
• Racquet sports (6 squash courts, 15 racquetball courts, and 11 tennis courts)
• Indoor Climbing (2 climbing walls with belay classes for first-time users)
Kerr Lake (230 acres of rustic lake front property ideal for fishing, boating and primitive camping)

SPECIALTY PROGRAMS

Employee Group Exercise
A variety of fitness classes are offered during the workday (early morning, lunch hour and evening) to meet the needs of UNC-CH employees. Faculty/staff are welcome to participate in ALL classes offered.

Intramural Sports Leagues
Faculty and staff members looking for camaraderie, fun and athletic activity have many opportunities available to them through Intramural Sports. The program offers a variety of team and individual sports. For additional questions, please contact the Intramural Director, dustinvs@email.unc.edu.

Expedition & Challenge Course Program
Carolina Adventures offers team building low and high challenge course programs for departmental groups and organizations. Outdoor adventure is an effective, fun and unique way to develop a sense of unity within your office or department. We can design a program to address your group’s specific needs and goals; the shared experience of an expedition can transform a new group into a strong network of supportive teammates or strengthen an existing group.
