Rams Head Recreation Center
This state-of-the-art facility features:

  • 3 basketball courts (one with inset soccer goals and dasherboards for roller & floor hockey)
  • Indoor track
  • Indoor climbing wall
  • Locker rooms
  • Multipurpose room
  • Cardiovascular and weight training equipment
Student Recreation Center (SRC)
Located at the corner of South Road and Stadium Drive, the SRC provides UNC students and employees with cardiovascular and weight training equipment and group fitness classes.

Gymnasiums

Fetzer Gym
This building includes the following facility features:

  • 2 multipurpose gyms (Gym A and B) which are used for basketball, volleyball, badminton and team handball Gymnastics gym (Gym C)
  • Indoor climbing wall (Gym C)
  • Fencing/multipurpose room
  • Wrestling/combatives room
  • 6 squash courts (American)
  • 14 racquetball courts (four of which can be converted for wallyball)
  • Sports medicine
  • Student and faculty/staff locker rooms
  • Basketroom (locker and towel service and sport equipment check-out)
Woollen Gym
Woollen Gym is undergoing major renovations until Spring 2010. During this time, the main gym floor/basketball courts will remain open; a new entrance is located between Woollen Gym and Bowman Gray indoor pool. Faculty locker rooms will also remain open and can be accessed via the balcony of Bowman-Gray indoor pool only. The Woollen basket room and all other areas of the building will be closed during renovations. Bathrooms are available in the faculty locker rooms or the lobby of Fetzer Gym. Thank you for your patience.

Outdoor Rec & Fields

NEW facility OPEN for TENNIS & BASKETBALL ENTHUSIASTS

The North Campus Recreation Courts (NCRC) features 6 tennis courts, one of which has two full court basketball courts running cross-wise. Basketball is top priority on court (#1). Lights may be manually operated and a switch is located between courts 3 and 4.

South Campus Recreation Complex (SCRC)*
This outdoor, multipurpose facility will include the following features:
-3 tennis courts & 3 paddle tennis courts
-2 basketball courts/inline hockey surface
-3 sand volleyball courts
*Anticipated opening date for complex is Spring '09.

Ehringhaus Field
Ehringhaus Field serves as the primary practice and home game field for many of Carolina's outdoor sport club teams.

Hooker Fields
Located across from the main entrance of Carmichael Auditorium, Intramurals use these fields for flag football, soccer, softball, and kickball. Sport Clubs, such as ultimate frisbee, soccer, and rugby, use Hooker Fields for practice and games.

Outdoor Education Center (OEC)
The OEC is home to the Outdoor Education Program. It is located off of Country Club Road (an easy 10 minute walk from Woollen Gym). The OEC includes a premier 18-hole disc golf course, a comprehensive high and low elements challenge course, 3 sand volleyball courts, 11 tennis courts, and a bouldering wall.

Kerr Lake Recreation Area
Thinking about getting away ... The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Kerr Lake Recreation Association operates a recreational area on a 230 acre peninsula on Kerr Lake, one of North Carolina's most popular locations for water sports and outdoor relaxation. The shore and coves are well-suited for swimming and fishing, and the lake is ideal for water-skiing, canoeing, sailing, or simply a leisurely weekend outdoors. The Universtiy area is an easy 90 minute drive from Chapel Hill. Permits are available in 203 Woollen Gym and permits go on sale approximately March 16, 2007; check website or email for updates on key availability. [more]

Swimming

Bowman Gray Indoor Pool
This Olympic-length pool includes two 50-meter, six 25 meter, and six 25 yard lanes and is accessible through the Woollen men’s and women’s locker rooms. For lap swim hours and questions regarding this facility, please go to www.aquatics.unc.edu.

Kessing Outdoor Pool
This facility is located directly behind Woollen Gym and will be CLOSED until Fall 2010.
